IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) is an Italian wine classification below DOC/DOCG, offering winemakers more flexibility with grape varieties and techniques. Many 'Super Tuscan' wines used IGT to make non-traditional blends. France's equivalent is IGP (Indication Geographique Protegee). Now being phased into European IGP system.
