Full Definition

Irrigation provides water to vineyards where rainfall is insufficient. Methods include drip (most precise), furrow, and sprinkler systems. Deficit irrigation deliberately restricts water to stress vines and concentrate flavors. Irrigation is prohibited in many European appellations but essential in California, Australia, and other warm regions.
