Official ranking system for wines or wine estates.
Full Definition
A classification is an official ranking of wines or wine estates based on quality, price, or reputation. Famous examples include Bordeaux's 1855 Classification, Burgundy's Grand Cru/Premier Cru system, and Germany's VDP rankings. Classifications may be legally binding or honorary, and some haven't been updated in over a century.
