Gobelet
/goh-buh-LAY/Traditional bush vine training without trellising.
Full Definition
Gobelet (bush vine or head-trained) is an ancient vine training system where each vine stands as a free-standing bush without trellising. Common in hot, dry climates (Southern Rhone, Spain, old California) where the canopy shades fruit from intense sun. Labor-intensive but produces concentrated wines from low-yielding old vines.
