Old Vines
/OHLD VYNZ/
Mature grapevines, typically 35+ years old.
Full Definition
Old vines (vieilles vignes) are mature grapevines, though no legal definition exists for minimum age. Generally 35-50+ years, sometimes over 100. Old vines naturally reduce yields, develop deep root systems, and produce concentrated, complex wines. They're valued for intensity but are less productive and harder to maintain.
