En Primeur

Full Definition
En primeur (or wine futures) is purchasing wine before it's bottled, typically during barrel aging. The Bordeaux en primeur system offers wines in spring following harvest, for delivery 18-24 months later. Buyers gamble on quality assessments and future prices. Other regions including Burgundy have adopted similar systems.
