Full Definition
Earthy describes wines with aromas and flavors reminiscent of soil, forest floor, mushrooms, truffles, wet leaves, or minerals. It's often a positive descriptor suggesting terroir expression, particularly in aged Burgundy, Barolo, and traditional European wines. Excessive earthiness can be a fault.
