Burgundy
/BUR-guhn-dee/French region producing prestigious Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Full Definition
Burgundy (Bourgogne) is eastern France's premier region for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its complex classification system includes Regional, Village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru levels. The concept of terroir is central: tiny vineyard differences create dramatically different wines. Notoriously expensive and allocation-limited at top levels.
