Glossary
Viscosity
/vis-KOS-ih-tee/
The thickness or flowing quality of wine.
Full Definition
Viscosity describes how thick or thin wine flows in the glass and feels in the mouth. Higher alcohol, glycerol, and residual sugar increase viscosity. Viscous wines cling to the glass (legs/tears) and feel rich in mouth. Low viscosity suggests light, lean wine. Viscosity influences texture perception.
