Full Definition
Varietal wine is labeled with the grape variety name (Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon) rather than place. Regulations vary: US requires 75% minimum of named variety, EU requires 85%. Varietal labeling dominates New World wines, while Old World traditionally emphasizes regional names. A varietal also means a grape variety.
