Viticulture is the cultivation of grapevines for winemaking, encompassing site selection, variety choice, training systems, canopy management, disease control, irrigation, and harvest decisions. Good viticulture is considered more important than cellar work - 'wine is made in the vineyard.' A viticulturist specializes in vine growing.
