Vigor describes a vine's vegetative growth energy - shoot length, leaf size, and overall growth rate. High-vigor vines produce excessive foliage potentially shading fruit. Low vigor concentrates energy into fewer grapes. Vigor is influenced by rootstock, soil fertility, water availability, and variety. Balanced vigor is the goal.
