New World refers to wine-producing regions outside Europe's traditional Old World: primarily the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. The term also describes a style - riper fruit, higher alcohol, more oak, less earthy. These distinctions are increasingly blurred as winemaking becomes more global.
