Sweet

/SWEET/

Wine with noticeable residual sugar.

Full Definition

Sweet wines have significant residual sugar, usually above 45 g/L. Sweetness ranges from lightly sweet to lusciously sweet. Sweet wines balance sugar with acidity to avoid cloying. Made by stopping fermentation (Port), concentrating by botrytis, freezing (Eiswein), or drying grapes. Dessert wines, late harvest, and fortified styles are typically sweet.
