The second-highest vineyard classification in Burgundy.

Full Definition

Premier Cru ('first growth') is the second tier of Burgundy vineyard classification, below Grand Cru. These vineyards appear on labels with the village name plus vineyard (e.g., 'Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers'). There are over 600 Premier Cru vineyards. In Bordeaux, Premier Cru confusingly means the top level (First Growth).
