Spicy character reminiscent of black or white pepper.
Full Definition
Peppery describes spicy aromas and flavors of black or white pepper, common in Syrah/Shiraz, Gruner Veltliner, and some Zinfandels. Caused by rotundone compound. Can also describe the burning sensation from high alcohol. Peppery character is typically varietal and positive.
