Barbaresco

/bar-bah-RES-koh/

DOCG for Nebbiolo wines from Piedmont, Italy.

Full Definition

Barbaresco is a DOCG in Piedmont, Italy, producing wines exclusively from Nebbiolo. Often called Barolo's sibling, it's typically more elegant and earlier-maturing than Barolo due to warmer, lower-elevation vineyards. Famous producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, and Bruno Giacosa. The commune and two others (Neive, Treiso) comprise the zone.
