Pungent describes sharp, penetrating aromas that strongly impact the nose. Can be positive (intense aromatics) or negative (volatile acidity, sulfur). Pungent wines make an immediate impression. Common with aromatic varieties, high VA wines, or young wines with strong varietal character.
