Halbtrocken ('half-dry') is a German sweetness designation for wines with 9-18 grams per liter residual sugar (with restrictions based on acidity). The style is between trocken (dry) and lieblich (semi-sweet). Off-dry Riesling balances residual sugar with acidity for food-friendly character.
