Grenache
/greh-NASH/Major red variety of Southern France and Spain.
Full Definition
Grenache (Garnacha in Spain) is a high-alcohol, fruity red grape thriving in hot, dry climates. It's the dominant variety in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and forms GSM blends with Syrah and Mourvedre. Grenache produces wines with red fruit, spice, and soft tannins but can oxidize easily. Also makes excellent rose and fortified wines.
