Foxy

Distinctive musky aroma of native American grape species.

Full Definition

Foxy describes the distinctive musky, grapey aroma found in wines from Vitis labrusca and other native American grape species (Concord, Catawba, Niagara). The compound methyl anthranilate creates this candy-grape character. Considered a fault in European wines but traditional in Eastern American varieties.
