Cordon

A permanent horizontal arm of a grapevine.

Full Definition

A cordon is a permanent horizontal extension of the vine trunk, trained along a wire. In cordon training, fruiting spurs grow from this permanent arm. Bilateral cordon has arms extending in both directions. Cordon training is efficient and consistent but may reduce wine complexity compared to cane pruning.
