Coffee

/KOF-ee/

Roasted, espresso-like aromas from oak or aged wine.

Full Definition

Coffee or espresso notes appear in wines aged in heavily toasted oak barrels or in mature wines. The roasted, bitter-sweet coffee character comes from wood pyrolysis during barrel toasting. Common in heavily oaked reds and some aged wines. Related to mocha and chocolate notes.
