Full Definition
Toast refers to heat treatment applied to barrel interiors during cooperage. Light toast preserves wood character; medium toast adds vanilla, caramel; heavy/high toast contributes smoke, coffee, chocolate. Toast level affects the flavors oak imparts to wine. Coopers control toast duration and intensity.
