Brix

/BRIKS/

Measurement of sugar content in grape juice.

Full Definition

Brix is a scale measuring dissolved sugar content in grape must, used to determine ripeness and potential alcohol. One degree Brix equals 1 gram sugar per 100 grams solution. Most table wine grapes are harvested between 22-26 Brix. Each Brix degree converts to roughly 0.55-0.60% alcohol.
