American Viticultural Area - US wine region designation.

Full Definition

AVA (American Viticultural Area) is the US appellation system, defining geographic wine regions based on climate, soil, and other distinguishing features. Unlike European systems, AVAs don't regulate grape varieties or winemaking. At least 85% of grapes must come from the named AVA. There are over 270 AVAs across the country.
