Spritz
/SPRITS/
Slight effervescence or prickle in wine.
Full Definition
Spritz describes slight effervescence, a mild prickle of CO2 on the tongue. Intentional in frizzante wines like Vinho Verde. Unintentional spritz in still wine may indicate refermentation (fault) or simply CO2 retained from fermentation. Context determines whether spritz is welcome or problematic.
