Clos (plural: clos) is a French term for a walled vineyard. The walls historically protected vines and helped ripen grapes through reflected heat. Many famous Burgundy vineyards are clos: Clos de Vougeot, Clos de Tart, Clos des Lambrays. Some New World wineries use 'clos' as a marketing term.
