French term for barrel or cask; also a volume measure.
Full Definition
Tonneau is French for barrel/cask, and also a traditional Bordeaux volume measure equaling 900 liters (4 barriques/100 cases). Bordeaux prices were historically quoted per tonneau. The term tonnellerie refers to the barrel-making craft and cooperage business.
