Millerandage

/mee-ler-on-DAHZH/

Uneven berry development from poor pollination.

Full Definition

Millerandage (hen and chicks, shot berries) results from poor pollination, causing grapes in a cluster to develop unevenly with some remaining small and seedless. Weather during flowering is usually the cause. Can reduce yields but seedless berries may increase concentration. Common in cool climates and with certain varieties.
