The Left Bank refers to Bordeaux wine regions west of the Gironde estuary and Garonne River, including Medoc, Graves, Pessac-Leognan, and Sauternes. Gravelly soils favor Cabernet Sauvignon, which dominates blends. The 1855 Classification covers Left Bank estates. Wines are typically more structured than Right Bank.
