A corked wine has been contaminated with TCA (trichloroanisole), displaying musty, damp cardboard, or moldy newspaper aromas. The fruit is muted or absent. Severity ranges from subtle suppression to obvious contamination. It's estimated 2-5% of naturally corked wines are affected to some degree.
