Chianti

/kee-AHN-tee/

Tuscan red wine, primarily Sangiovese.

Full Definition

Chianti is a red wine from Tuscany, Italy, based on Sangiovese grapes. Chianti Classico is the historic heart; other zones include Chianti Rufina and Colli Senesi. Modern Chianti ranges from simple, fresh versions to serious, age-worthy wines. The straw-covered flask (fiasco) is now rare except in tourist markets.
