Cassis is the French word for black currant, and a classic descriptor for Cabernet Sauvignon. The dark, concentrated berry flavor is considered varietal character for quality Cabernet. Cassis is also a French AOC for Provence wines and a blackcurrant liqueur used in Kir cocktails.
