Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Villero 2022

Floral on the nose, violet and dried roses, with dark fruit, sage, menthol, leather and graphite lurking underneath. Medium-bodied, but the tannins are punishingly astringent, overwhelming whatever fruit tries to come forward. Villero typically resolves with age, yet the structural imbalance here runs deep enough to raise real doubts about where this is heading. Hard to make a case for patience.
