Sweet tobacco, dried cherry, aged leather and a dusting of forest floor, the 2012 Bussia 90 Dì reads like a wine already settling into its mature phase. Mid-weight in body with good textural depth, the tannins are supple and the fruit carries a dried, autumnal quality that signals an accelerated arc. Drink it over the next several years while that plateau holds; there's little to gain from extended cellaring.

Giacomo Fenocchio

A traditionalist Barolo estate working several of the appellation's most respected crus, including Bussia, Cannubi, and Villero. Long macerations and large Slavonian oak define the house style.
