Opulent and generous, even by the standards of the vintage. Dark cherry, dried violets, warm spice and a deep undercurrent of iron-rich earth. The wine is full-bodied and plush, with a seamless texture that makes its 48 months in barrel surprisingly easy to absorb, though that extended oak aging does leave its mark, particularly in the wine's pliant, almost cushioned feel. Made entirely from the estate's Pian Bossolino holdings (trademarked elsewhere, hence the name variation), it carries that site's character with conviction. Drink now through 2030.

Pian dell'Orino

Small Montalcino estate run by Caroline Pobitzer and Jan Hendrick Erbach, farming biodynamically on the southwestern slope. Two single-vineyard Brunellos, Vigneti del Versante and Bassolino di Sopra, define the range.
