Wine Lake
/WINE layk/
European surplus wine from overproduction subsidies.
Full Definition
Wine Lake refers to the massive wine surplus that accumulated in the EU from agricultural subsidies encouraging production regardless of demand. Surplus wine was distilled into industrial alcohol. EU reforms in the 2000s reduced the wine lake through vineyard grubbing schemes and market reform.
