A blend drawn from Pichler's five to seven finest Terrassen sites, the 2023 opens with white miso, lemon pith and russet pear peel, a savory, almost umami-laced nose that signals something serious. On the palate, that savoriness deepens: juicy pear flesh, yeasty richness and a salty, peppery undercurrent carried on a surprisingly light, fluid frame. For a Smaragd it's lean, almost slender, yet the concentration is there, compressed rather than broad, with flavor that pushes forward rather than spreads wide. The finish pulls back to clean citrus before a long trail of white pepper closes things out. Bone-dry.
