From vines between 50 and 90 years old planted in calcareous loam over limestone, the 2023 Schwemmer opens with violet and dried flowers, then layers on cracked black pepper and a deep core of blueberry that feels almost supercharged in its intensity. There's a gothic quality to the structure, tannins soaring and firm, yet the fruit beneath them is fresh and immaculate. Bone-dry, with total composure and a finish that stays floral long after the wine is gone.
