From a plateau of limestone over volcanic bedrock, with vines planted in 1908 and 1934/35, this is Blaufränkisch of striking depth and purity. The nose opens on something primal, iron, dark blood, the faint mineral edge of struck flint with just a trace of reduction. It's savory and serious, yet the wine blooms into violet and blueberry on the palate, where the density of silky, fine-grained tannin is genuinely impressive. Bright, bone-dry freshness runs through the whole, keeping the concentration honest. Florality and elegance carry the finish.
