Wieninger Grüner Veltliner Ries Kaasgraben Sievering 2022

Seventy-year-old vines rooted in quartz on an elevated Sievering site, vinified in large Slovenian oak. The nose is closed and reticent, needing coaxing, but the wine opens up on the palate with a quiet, yeasty smoothness, apple flesh, a faint pithy bite, and a lightly saline texture that gives the whole thing an almost tactile quality. It finishes narrow and clean, tapering to a focused citrus brightness. Bone-dry, understated, and well-made.
