Drawn from the heart of the Kollmitz site, where 55-to-80-year-old vines push roots through weathered paragneiss, this 2022 opens with quiet smoke and a fern-like, sage-tinged herbaceousness. It's a lean, composed wine, not one that announces itself, but one that earns attention gradually. Midpalate, a surge of saline, yeasty depth arrives alongside hay and cracked white pepper, the kind of textural complexity that paragneiss terroir seems almost engineered to produce. The finish is long and bone-dry, with a persistent salinity and that signature white pepper trailing quietly behind.
