From a volcanic plateau with limestone overlay, the Ried Maissner draws on two elevated parcels, vines planted in 1934/35 and 1908, and the age shows. Iron, blood, white pepper and wild blueberry cut through on the nose with real precision. On the palate it's spare and stony, concentrated without excess flesh, built around a dense, finely-knit tangle of tannins that strips the fruit back to something almost elemental. The blueberry is there, but purer and more austere than generous. Spice and structure interlock, and the finish leaves no question about the wine's staying power. Drink 2026–2040.
