Kanonkop Wine Estate Pinotage Black Label 2022

Twenty-four months in French Nevers oak leaves a clear mark here, more so than on the Paul Sauer. Dark and brooding on the nose, with blackcurrant, crushed violet and a generous cedary depth. On the palate it's medium-bodied, the tannins ripe and smooth, carrying dark chocolate-dipped black fruit with a degree of polish that feels earned rather than forced. The finish turns fresh and minty, lifting the wine out of heaviness. Give it a decade.
