Weinbach Riesling Cuvée Ste. Catherine Schlossberg Grand Cru 2021

Old vines from the mid-slope of Schlossberg, a year-long ferment arrested at around 5g/L, the numbers tell you something unusual is happening here. The nose is restrained to the point of reticence: a whisper of orange blossom, a flicker of smoke, then pineapple juice creeping in with warmth. The palate is where it opens up, bold and serene at once, with granite minerality giving it that crystalline cut. Pithy texture drives the salivation. Freshly zested Amalfi lemon carries through the long, bright finish. Richer than typical Weinbach, but 2021's electric acidity keeps it honest, all drive, no fat.
