Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinotage/Cinsault Ashbourne 2018

Swartland bush vines from 1973, with Cinsault from the Riebeek Casteel foothills making up roughly a fifth of the blend. Dark cherry, raspberry preserve and a thread of blueberry on the nose, straightforward and genuinely appealing. Medium-bodied on the palate, with supple tannins and a mix of dark cherry, blackberry and a soft bergamot tea note that adds a little intrigue toward the finish. Clean lines throughout. Excellent value from a fine vintage.
