F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Dürnsteiner 2016

Formerly bottled as Urgstein Terrassen, this Smaragd draws fruit from both Loiben and Dürnstein, the Pichlers now consolidating it under the better-known Dürnstein name for administrative clarity. White pepper and ripe pear lead on the nose, backed by yellow stone fruit and a firm mineral backbone that speaks clearly to these loess and primary rock terraces. The wine is full-bodied yet focused, with that characteristic GV grip and a clean, saline pull on the finish. Impressive winemaking from a vintage that rewarded those who got the balance right.
