Emmerich Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Schütt 2016

Earthy and low-register in a way that immediately sets the Schütt apart from the Kreutles, artichoke, roasted root vegetables and a savory, almost briny depth that calls to mind mussels steamed with fennel fronds. There's an alkaline, seaweedy quality woven through the mid-palate that is genuinely distinctive. The texture is smooth and full without any sense of weight or heat, and the finish stretches long, leaving a mouthwatering salt edge behind. Grows considerably with time in the glass.
