Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Liebenberg 2016

Green bean and legume notes dominate the nose, backed by a stony, somewhat austere foundation. Firm and tight-knit on the palate, with an artichoke-like bitterness running through the finish rather than the saline, mouthwatering depth that Alzinger's best Grüner Veltliner of this vintage achieves. The persistence is genuinely impressive, but green pepper edges and a lack of mineral nuance hold it back from the heights of its stable-mates. Honest Liebenberg, but not the vineyard at its most compelling.
